Told in three interconnected segments, the film follows the life of a young man named Takaki Tōno and his relationship with Akari Shinohara. Beginning in the 1990s and moving into the 2000s, it explores the themes of distance, time, and the bittersweet nature of young love as the two protagonists are pulled apart by family moves and the inevitable passage of time.
