Set in December 1979, the film depicts the real-life military coup d'état that shook South Korea following the assassination of President Park Chung-hee. It focuses on the intense nine-hour confrontation between Major General Chun Doo-gwang, who leads a rogue military faction to seize power, and Commander Lee Tae-shin, a principled soldier who risks everything to stop the illegal uprising and protect the capital.
