Hachiko, an Akita dog, is given as a gift to Hidesaburo Ueno, a professor of agriculture at the University of Tokyo. Hachiko and Ueno become inseparable, and the dog accompanies the professor to the Shibuya train station every day. One day, Ueno suffers a heart attack and dies at work. Hachiko, who does not know of his owner's death, continues to go to the train station every day, waiting for him, for nine years. Hachiko's story has become a symbol of loyalty and devotion, and his statue is located at the Shibuya train station, where he used to wait for Ueno.
